Is my beliefs right? Buddhist Monk (Detaching and meditation)?
I posted this as a reply to someone but I decided to copy and paste it here also. Please read and tell me if my way of life is good or if I need to improve on something? Listen to me. I am a 16 year old buddhist (Close to monk in most cases) I follow all their belives. Well, not so much. But I do belive what the monks say about detatching yourself and meditation is right, because i've spent 3 years practicing both and... I feel so much happier. My depression and anger ended. I feel happy nearly all the time. It's hard to insult me and I think very positive 99% of the time. I always thought it was just a lie and it was just a way of giving people hope. I tried it anyway and now that I see its the truth I have more faith in the monks. The monks aren't always right of course. They are still human, but I think i've made some right choices. I haven't had a single relationship in my life. I turned down a few girls before and I refuse to date any until 18 and I won't have sex untill marriage. Belive me, although it takes a few years to master it does work. If I lost my phone right now i'd honestly wouldn't care. This is my second laptop. My first one was destroyed by my friend (accident). I forgived him and didn't make a big deal about it. These things happen and we can't worry about the past. Think about what I just said. I've learned many things and made many mistakes, there were things I regret but i've forgiven myself for those things. My friends find me to be very wise for someone my age, and its weird because my bf and gf advice all work for them when I haven't had a single relationship in my life... Maybe, they just can't see clearly.

How do you chain your intentions?
I'm 19 years old, and I just finished my first year of college. I have a list of goals that I want to complete over the summer, but I can never seem to work towards them. I've looked up articles on self-motivation and goal setting, and even self improvement articles, but my problem is that the motivation they give me doesn't seem to last, and I end up losing sight of my reasons and goals when I need them the most. Because of this, I end up not accomplishing anything at all. My goals, by the way, are as follows: -To become a better person -To excel in graphic design -To learn to speak and write fluently in Japanese -To be more physically active and fit -To master human anatomy in drawing Graphic design is my course I'm taking at college, and while I'm making it on the Dean's list every semester, I'm still getting some C's and the odd D in my assignments. I planned on studying this summer so that I can take the school by storm in september, but I haven't made much effort so far to better my studies and to practice. The only goal I'm actually on my way to achieving is becoming more fit, because I've developed a fitness routine for myself where I jog and work out every other day. Compared to studying Japanese an graphic design, it just seems easier, although I couldn't tell you why. Even though I'm doing better in this area as opposed to the others, I still feel like I could do even better, because I still slack from time to time. But anyway, my point is.. I can't seem to chain my intentions for improvement in these areas of my life. I find myself doing other things that aren't even worthwhile, such as gaming or watching TV instead of accomplishing things that can make my life so much better. While I'm typing this to you right now, I'm pretty motivated, but I know for a fact that when I'm done I'll pull out my book on anatomy and try to study, and only end up dwindling off and losing my motivation. It's the same thing for my Japanese studies; when I started I was reading every night, practicing pronunciation and writing out the letters. Over time that just stopped, and I haven't even touched my textbook for weeks. I've got the desire to change, improve and learn, but I lack the motivation and discipline. My question is, how do you chain your intention so that you always have it when you need it?

Basically, it's to do with self improvement. I have come to a conclusion that humans can reach their full potential and improve in all areas of life, apart from one..... Facial looks. This applies specifically to Males!! It is so annoying when we hear about all these self improvement and self help articles, yet when someones core issue is actually looks. Self acceptance is the key yeah, but what if you wan to genuinely improve your looks,,, uh oh, self acceptance doesn't play a part then, does it? I just think it's something which needs to be reviewed like. I know so many people who are emotionally developed and are 100 % happy with all aspects of their lives - their education, career, relationship with family - but their ugly looks hold them back from achieving full happiness. I know people will say ''Hold on, there are loads of self improvement articles on how to get a six pack or how to get muscly arms/toned biceps''. Yeah that's grand, but what if you have an ugly face. Your bone structure, your natural hair colour - Nothing can fix that, no self improvement article can fix that. It reminds me of something I saw, taking a pun on the movie shrek. ''You can lose weight if your fat, you can read books and go to school if your dumb, but you can't drink a magic potion if you're ugly.... that's only for movies!! So anyways, I've come to the conclusion that when it comes to the topic of ugly, the only self improvement advice that can be given is to get plastic surgery. You can dye your hair, get a tan.... but let's face it, you're natural look will always come back to you. It's kind of like a 'you can run, but you can't hide scenario' So please guys, is there anyone out there that can prove me wrong?
